GRANNY TILES in Neutrals

CUADROS GRANNY NEUTRALES

This is a cushion made with granny squares in different tones of beige.  The last row in all squares is made in off-white. 

Este es un cojín hecho de cuadros granny en diferentes tonos de beige.  La última vuelta de todos los cuadros es en color crema. 

Then, the squares are joined with sc´s (simple crochet stitches), using the border color (off-white, in this case). After I joined the 9 squares in each side (which are identical), I made an extra row of off-white to reach the size of the cushion.

Luego, los cuadros se unen con punto sencillo, usando el color del borde. Después de unir los 9 cuadros de cada lado (los cuales son idénticos), hice una hilera extra en crema para que alcanzara la medida del cojín.

 

I call this style: “Granny Tiles”, because it reminds me of ceramic tiles on the floor, with a neutral color separating each square.  For this project, I used my left-over stash in neutral beige colors, all medium yarn.

A este estilo lo bauticé como “Azulejos Granny”, porque me recuerda a los azulejos de cerámica, con un color neutral separándolos.  Para este proyecto, utilicé mis lanas sobrantes en colores beige, todas lanas medianas. 

Originally, I was going to make a baby blanket with these mixed bag of beige…but then someone told me it looked a little sad and serious for a baby.  I guess they were right, but I loved them.  Then I noticed how good it looked on my sofa, where I usually knit…so I changed plans: it was going to become a “Granny Tiles Cushion”.

Originalmente iba a hacer una manta para bebé con todas estas lanas beige…pero luego alguien me dijo que se miraba muy triste y serio para un bebé.  Supongo que tenían razón, pero de todos modos me estaban gustando mucho.  Luego me di cuenta que se miraban muy bien en el sofá, donde suelo tejer…así que cambié de planes, y lo convertí en “un Cojín de Azulejos Granny”. 

I love how it looks over my brown sofa, and under the square paintings.

Me gusta mucho como resalta sobre el sofa café, y debajo de los cuadros.

The colder weather calls for warm and comfy blankets. A while ago I made these two blankets with vertical stripes, but I never gave them the proper attention in my blog…until now:

El clima frío provoca a cubrirse con frazadas, calientitas y confortables.  Hace un tiempo hice estas dos frazadas de franjas verticales, pero no les di un lugar especial…hasta ahora:

I made this blanket with a bulky yarn (Cisne Verona) in moss green and espresso brown, and used a big crochet needle (size N 10mm).

Esta frazada la hice con una lana gruesa (Cisne Verona) en colores verde musgo y café tostado.  Utilicé una aguja muy gruesa de crochet (ganchillo), de 10 mm.

I love the texture of this yarn.  And to add even more texture, I made the stitches in the back loop on the row where I changed colors (though not always), and also made some stripes wider than others.  Believe it or not, most of the blanket is made is sc (simple crochet).

Me encanta la textura de esta lana.  Y para darle aún más textura, hice las puntadas en la parte de atrás, para hacerlo resaltar, cada vez que cambiaba de color.  Las franjas tienen diferente grosor.  Créanlo o no, casi toda la frazada está hecha de puntos sencillos (medio pilar).

I made this other blanket with a loom, but it could also be done with knitting needles as well (as simple as *knit, purl*).  Each color stripe is made separately, and then joined in a zigzag fashion with simple crochet (sc) on each side.  I love to mix crochet and knitting techniques in the same project.

I also knitted the cushion in cables and garter st on the borders.

 Usé un telar para hacer esta frazada, pero también podría hacerse en dos agujas (tan simple como: *un derecho, un revés*).  Se hacen franjas separadas, por color, y luego se van uniendo dos franjas con un zigzag en crochet (ganchillo).  Me encanta combinar técnicas de crochet con tricot (dos agujas) en el mismo proyecto.  También tejí el cojin en trenzas con p. derechos en los bordes.
