Butterfly Hat and Scarf pattern

Gorra Mariposa y Patrón de Bufanda

I loved this cute hat with a butterfly on the side, which is designed by Vallieskids.
You can find the pattern in her blog: http://vallieskids.blogspot.com/2009/06/olivias-butterfly.html

I made the hat for a little girl, but I needed a scarf as well. Therefore I decided to take the butterfly design, and apply it on the scarf.

Here is the pattern for the scarf:

PATTERN (in English)
BUTTERFLY SHORT SCARF

This is a different kind of scarf, which is a little shorter; one ends forms a ring by which the other end passes through.  What I like about this design for little kids is that the scarf stays put and doesn´t fall off so easily.

Ch = Chain
DC = Double crochet

Start with 13 chains.
1) Add 3 extra chains (which makes the first Dc) + 12 DC
2 &3) 3 ch + 1DC + 9 ch + 2DC
4)  3ch + 1DC + 4ch + 1DC (going down all the way to the first row) + 4ch + 2DC
5)  3ch + 12DC
6)  3ch * 1DC + 1ch* (5 times) + end with 2DC
7)  3ch + 12DC

Repeat rows 6 & 7 until you reach desired length (plus aprox. 7 extra rows to form the ring.  Sew it or crochet it on the back of the scarf).
Graphic Pattern:

You can repeat the Butterfly design on the ring of the scarf…just remember to do it before the last 7 rows which go to the back when forming the ring.

For the lack of a girl model, I was forced to improvise… Here is my “rosy cheeks” model showing off the butterfly hat and scarf.

PATRÓN (en español)
MARIPOSA GORRA Y BUFANDA CORTA

Cad = Cadena
P = Pilar o Vareta

  3. I love the crocheted ribbon that you added to the bottom of the butterfly hat (shown in the photo with your "model.") That's was a clever idea for a model!). I've made this hat and would LOVE to add the embellishment. Please share how you added that unique touch to the hat.
    I'm going to hook your scarf pattern. What a great addition. Thanks! Gracias.

  4. Hi, I love the scarf and hat! I am currently working on the scarf for my daughter. I just couldn't figure out how the ring is made? Could you explain it to me? Thanks! :)

    1. The goal is to make a ring you can pull the other end of the scarf to (so on windy days your scarf will stay nice and snug where you want it to). You'll fold the end of the scarf over (about 7 rows) and sew or crochet the end onto the scarf. This will create your ring and make the scarf adjustable. Hope this helps.
