My mom made this baby blanket, with white granny squares, and a flower border.

Mi mamá hizo esta manta para bebé, hecha de cuadros de la abuelita (granny), y un borde de flores.

The flower border was made with the granny squares from: the “Summer Garden Granny Square” (from Attic 24).  She alternated between the two shades of pink for the petals and center of the flowers. 

El borde floreado fue hecho con los cuadros de: “Jardín Veraniego” de Attic 24. Alternó entre los dos tonos de rosado para los pétalos y el centro de las flores.

 

For the final border, she used Bunny Mummy’s “Double V Edging”.

Para el borde final, usó el borde de Bunny Mummy: “Double V Edging”.

 

This baby blanket is part of a gift set, along with: baby hat and shoes (made by me ☺), and a flannel receiving blanket with a crocheted border.

Esta frazada es parte de un set de regalo, junto con: zapatos y botas en ganchillo (hechos por mí ☺), y una mantita de franela con un borde delicado en ganchillo.

A small blanket for a baby girl…

Una manta pequeña para una bebé…

I call this style: “granny tiles”.  The granny squares are in many colors, and the last row in all of them have the same neutral color, giving it a “tile look”.  A while ago I made a cushion in neutral colors using the same style: Granny Tiles inneutrals.

A este estilo, lo llamo: “azulejos de la abuelita” (ing. Granny tiles).  Los cuadros son de colores, y la última pasada se hace en un color neutral, lo cual le da la apariencia de azulejo o mosaico.   Hace un tiempo hice un cojín utilizando este mismo estilo: Cuadros GrannyNeutrales. 

For this baby blanket, I used off-white for the background.  The rest is made with many colors I had in my stash, predominantly pinkish because it is for a baby girl.

Para esta frazada, utilicé un crema claro para el fondo.  Los cuadros los hice de muchos colores, con énfasis en rosados y lilas, ya que es para una niña. 

For the border, I used the mosaic border (the same as for the 3rd Plaid GrannyBlanket).

El borde lo hice con la puntada mosaico (igual que la 3°frazada granny escocesa). 

The “granny tiles” fever caught on in our knitting group, and three more were made.  I´ll try to get some pictures to show you…

Mi grupo de tejido se contagio con la “fiebre de los mosaicos” porque ya han hecho otras tres.  Procuraré obtener fotos para mostrárselos…

Variety of medium worsted yarn, in purple, green and neutral tones

For both, I am using the same pattern:  Love at First Sight Hex, from Le Monde de Sucrette

Para ambas mantas, estoy usando el mismo patrón: Love at First Sight, de Le Monde de Sucrette (con gráfica).

I am not as patient as some of you, who make the flowers first, and wait until the end to join all of them with the background color.  I have to see how it was going to look! How do you like to work your squares or hexagons?

No soy tan paciente como algunas de ustedes, quienes tejen todas las flores primero, y esperan a tener todas antes de comenzar a pegarlas con el color de fondo.  ¡Yo tengo que ver cómo va quedando la frazada! ¿Qué prefieres tú?

CIRCLE IN A GRANNY

 All circles are in color, and the background square is all in white. 

Los círculos están hechos en lanas de colores, y luego todo el fondo en blanco, que se convierte en cuadrado.

The border is similar to the one I made for my 3^rd granny Blanket , except for the picot on the last row.

El borde es similar a la que hice para mi 3° Frazada de grannys, excepto el picot en la última pasada.

The inspiration for the colors came from a receiving blanket with colored dots. 

La inspiración para los colores de esta frazada vino de una mantita de franela. 

Both blankets are going to be a gift for a fortunate baby, which in my opinion can be either for a boy or a girl.    And my mom also made the border for the receiveing blanket!  Such a nice gift...

Ambas son un regalo para un bebé afortunado, que en mi opinión, puede ser tanto para niño como para niña. ¡Y mi mamá también hizo el borde para la mantita de franela!  Un regalo muy especial...

Blanket: CIRCLES + STRIPES

I wanted to make a baby blanket with baby boy colors and a brown background, but I had a hard time decided how.  So many options, but I wanted to do something “different”... And here it is:

Quería hacer una manta de bebé con colores tiernos, pero con un fondo café oscuro, pero no tenía idea cómo.  Hay tantas opciones, pero quería hacer algo “diferente”... y éste es el resultado:

I love the look of “circles in a square”, so I started there... 

Me gusta mucho “los círculos en un cuadrado”, así que decidí comenzar por allí…

But then I thought a full blanket with a brown background would come out too dark (for a baby, at least).  So then I decided to make one row of circles in a square in each end... and for the rest, stripes of alternating colors. 

Pero luego pensé que el fondo café se vería muy oscura (al menos para un bebé), así que decidí hacer sólo una hilera de círculos para el principio y el fin…y el resto haría franjas de colores, alternando con los colores.

I had more brown and cream yarn, so I used them as a background color, alternating lines of brown with a color (beige, light blue, green), and cream with another color.  How do you like it?

Dado que tenía más lana café y crema, decidí usar estos colores, alternando el café con un color, y el crema con otro color.  ¿Les gusta cómo quedó?  

Next week I am going to show you a baby blanket that my mom made, also with circles in a square, but in “granny style”...

La próxima semana les mostraré una manta que mi mamá hizo, también con círculo en  cuadrado pero al “estilo granny”…

SUMMER GARDEN Blanket

FRAZADA “JARDIN VERANIEGO”

 

This is my version of Lucy’s (Attic 24) “Summer Garden Blanket”.  It was specially made for a baby girl. 

Esta es mi versión de la frazada “Jardín Veraniego”, diseñada por Lucy de Attic24.  Es pequeña, especialmente hecha para una bebé.

These grannys have 4 rows.  I used the first two for the flower (in color), and the last two rows for the background (in white).

Estas grannys están hechas en 4 hileras.  Yo usé las primeras dos para dar forma a la flor (en color), y las últimas las dejé para el fondo (en blanco).

I used a mixture of medium acrylic yarn, mainly Caron Simply Soft, and others from my stash.  I used a hook 4.5 mm, though the yarn calls for a 5 mm (yes, you guessed it...I crochet a little loosely).

Utilicé una mezcla de lanas medianas, principalmente Caron Simply Soft.  Usé un ganchillo 4.5 mm, aunque la lana sugiere una de 5 mm (la verdad es que tejo un poco flojo). 

I made the border with the mosaic stitch—the same I used for my 3rd PlaidGranny Blanket.  For the final row: *sc over each dc (3), and then 3chains (a picot would do as well)*.  Simple, but cute.

El borde lo hice con la puntada mosaico, el mismo que usé para mi 3er Frazada Granny. Para la hilera final, es medio punto (sencillo) sobre cada vareta (3), y luego 3 cadenas (aunque también se podría hacer un punto picot).  Simple, pero tierno.

3rd GRANNY BLANKET

PLAID GRANNY in Grey / Blue

This is my third version of the PLAID GRANNY BLANKET.  [Check here for: the First and the Second versions].  I just love this blanket.  Classic. Cute.  Easy to make.  And I just love making granny squares.  This one is also a small size blanket, especially made for a baby´s carriage. 

Esta es la tercera versión que hago de la Frazada Granny Escocesa.  [Busca acá: la Primera y la Segunda].  Simplemente amo esta frazada.  Es clásica, linda y fácil de hacer.  Es tan relajante hacer los cuadritos granny.  Ésta también es una frazada pequeña, ideal para el carruaje de un bebé.

This time, I made it with 2 greys (pale and medium), and a shot of baby blue, with a white background.

En esta occasion, usé dos colores de grises (claro y mediano), un toque de celeste, con un fondo blanco. 

I changed the border this time, making it in “mosaic style” (I think that is how it is called…).  For those of you who like graphics, here is the basic idea of how this border is made:

Para esta frazada, decidí hacer un borde diferente.  Usé un estilo conocido como “mosaico” (creo que así lo llaman…). Para aquellos de ustedes que les gustan los gráficos, aquí hay un gráfico que les dará la idea de cómo hacerlo:

SOFT RIPPLE BLANKET in Blues

I made this Ripple Blanket for my nephew M.  It is small enough to work as a decoration piece for the feet of the bed, but big enough to cover him when taking a nap. 

Está frazada está hecha especialmente para mi sobrino M.  El tamaño no es tan grande ni tan pequeño, sino lo justo para el pie de su cama, y lo suficientemente grande para cubrirlo cuando toma la siesta.

It is made with medium worsted yarn (Caron Simply Soft, in blue tones and off cream), and hook 5mm.   I used the pattern by Lucy, found in her blog Attic 24: Neat Ripple.

Está hecho de lana mediana (Caron Simply Soft, en tonos azules y crema), y ganchillo 5 mm.  Usé el patrón de Lucy en el blog Attic 24: Neat Ripple, el cual ha sido traducido al español en el blog Hasta el Monyo: Manta Ondulada. 

Doesn’t he look happy with his blanket?  …and that makes me happy too!

Mary Clair´s Blanket

FRAZADA PARA MARY CLAIR

This is blanket was a gift for my cousin Mary Clair, especially made for her bed. 

Esta frazada es un regalo para mi prima Mary Clair, especialmente hecha para el pie de su cama. 

Mostly it is done in rows of dc´s, with just a couple of sc-rows in the darker colors.

Básicamente está hecha de hileras de varetas, con unas pocas hileras de medios puntos en los colores oscuros.

Yarn (Lana):  Acrylic, medium

Simply Soft (Caron) in Bone, Off White, Natural “Eco”, Sunshine, Country Blue (light, medium and dark).
Impeccable (Loops & Thread), in dark brown

Crochet Hook (Gancho): 5 mm

Stripes are so classic, and so enticing.  And they are so easy to make in blankets.  Simple rows of dc’s.  The key is to choose your colors well. 

Las franjas son clásicas y atractivas.   Son fáciles de replicar en las frazadas, con simples hileras de varetas (pilares).  La clave está en la elección de colores.     

The inspiration source for the colors in this blanket was a baby flannel cloth (in the middle):

This baby blanket reminds me of spring!!!
I love the colors:  Lavender, Melon Green and very Pale Blue.

Esta frazada de bebé me recuerda a la primavera.

Me gustan tanto los colores:  Lavanda, Verde tierno y Celeste pálido.

 

I made this blanket using a pattern I found in Attic 24: Hexagon Blanket.
The border is very simple:  A few rows of dc’s, alternating the colors.  But before that, I used my pattern: “Fill the Gap in the Hex”, to fill those awkward spaces in hexagon blankets.

Usé el patrón de Attic 24 para Hexágonos.  El borde es muy sencillos: varetas siguiendo el borde, alternando los colores.  Pero antes de ello, usé mi patrón para “Rellenar Hexágonos". 

 

Together with a matching baby cardigan, it makes a perfect gift for a baby shower.

La frazada, junto con un pequeño suetercito que combine, hacen un perfecto regalo para un bebé especial.
