New Blog for the New Year

NEW BLOG (Nuevo Blog): LANAS DE ANA

Beginning today, my blog “Lanas & Hilos” will receive …
… a new name: Lanas de Ana
…and a new address: www.lanasdeana.blogspot.com

A partir de hoy, mi blog “Lanas & Hilos” recibirá…
…un nuevo nombre: Lanas de Ana
…y una nueva dirección: www.lanasdeana.blogspot.com

The reason for the change is simple: to make it more user-friendly. When I started this blog a few years ago, it was only in Spanish.  Then, I decided to add English so I could have a wider reach in the www.

I still want to keep the Spanish flavor, but make it easier for foreigners.  So I chose the new name: “Lanas de Ana” which means: Ana´s yarns.  And now the name of the blog will coincide with the web address.

As a transition, I will still be posting some teasers here, with links to the new blog, where you will find the full version of the posts.

New year, new blog...Come with me to: Lanas de Ana.  I hope to see you there soon…
Nuevo año, nuevo blog.  Vengan conmigo a: Lanas de Ana.  Realmente espero verles allá pronto…

GRANNY STAR (Graphic Pattern)

ESTRELLA DE LA ABUELITA
(Crochet)

The graphic pattern of this GRANNY STAR is a gift for you…

It is not my original pattern, but it is my way of paying forward a gift that Kara from Petalsto Picots gave us last week.  I encourage you to go and check her post: “Granny Star Pattern”, because she has a wonderful story on how she came up with the gift of this cute crochet star.  There you can find the written pattern as well.

Maybe you can make it as a gift, to pay it forward…

SWEET LITTLE LAMB

DULCE OVEJITA
(Crochet)
Made by / Hecho por: Beatriz

My mom made another crafty gift:  Notebooks adorned with a cute crochet lamb.

For the gals in our knitting club…a large notebook, where we can jot down ideas, patterns, yarns, etc. of our knit/crochet projects.

For our prayer group…a small notebook that could be used as a prayer journal.

The main feature of all these notebooks is a little crochet lamb, made with fine cotton thread, and accessorized with beads and mini-buttons.

My mom fell in love with the little lamb when she first saw it in Raverly.  The pattern is called: Lamb Brooch, and it is designed by Vendula Maderska.  It was originally intended to be used as a brooch, but I guess you can use it as an appliqué for anything you fancy.

Notice how each lamb has its own personality…

Winter Star

A simple crochet star, in blue cotton.

When finished, it looks a little bit like a flower; but after blocking it, with pins in the tips, it turns into a star.

I love its simplicity!
¡Me encanta su simpleza!

Source of Inspiration

Fuente de Inspiración

The other day I received an e-mail that made me so happy.  It was from Karina, an Argentinean who lives now in Madrid.  She had been following my blog Lanas & Hilos, and there she found inspiration to make some crochet projects.

She sent me photos of some of her projects…and I asked her if I could share them with all of you, my blogger friends.  She said yes!  So here they are:

I just love how she ran with her own personal style, making the scarf wider, and adding some small flowers to a wide dc’s brim.

Thank you so much, Karina, for sharing with us your beautiful handwork.  I am so happy that my blog inspired you, and be sure that you have inspired me as well to keep going…

REALITY CHECK!!!

¡SEAMOS REALISTAS!

We crafters need to be realistic:  Not everything turns out as planned.  We have a dreamy idea in our heads, but then…the outcome is nothing close to our plans.

Seamos realistas

This is the case of this knit baby cardigan…In my head, it was wonderful!  In the needles, it was looking good.  But after casting off, I was disillusioned!

Does this mean that we give up?  Not at all.  We learn and try again.  That is life!  And that is how we become “experts” (which comes from the word: “experience”).

And now I am trying again, with another yarn, and with the lessons under my belt.  I hope this time I will be more successful…

Espero obtener mejores resultados…

GIFT: For Crochet Tools

REGALO: Para Ganchillo
[Made by / Hecho por: Beatriz]

My mom had a special surprise for our little knitting group:  two crochet cases for each one of us, for our hooks, scissors, and other tools.

1.  Mini-Granny Bag (Bolsa con mini-grannys)
The first one is a little rectangle bag made with mini-grannys, which was later lined with a colorful fabric, and closed with a zipper.  They all have the same yarn colors, but each has a distinctive background color.

2.  Folding Case for crochet hooks.  (Funda plegable para ganchos)
This case is made, on one side, with the same fabric, and the other with a crochet lining made with fine cotton (thread), in each of the four basic colors.  The crochet lining was made with a mosaic stitch, which is perfect to insert the crochet hooks.  The case can be rolled up, and tied.

Here are the different colors...each one beautiful and special:

*  SALMON (Salmón)

*  GREEN (Verde)

*  TURQUOISE (Turquesa)

*  And mine is BROWN.
Y el mío es café.

Thank you, mom, for this special gift!!!
¡¡¡Gracias, mami, por este regalo tan especial!!!

ROSES ON HATS

ROSAS EN GORRAS

I love the look of crochet roses.  They are usually made in strips of shells which need to be sewn together (…and I am not a fan of that).  But recently I found a rose that is made on the round at Apples Blossom Dreams.

The Rose is actually the starting point of a flowered granny, but it can also be used by itself.  It is a little tricky to make, at first, but the help of the video makes it a lot easier.  Thanks, Astri, for sharing it with the “www-world”!

I have used this rose on several hats, and it looks lovely.  Here are some samples:

a.  Grey & White Stripes Hat with a pink rose

b. Grey Granny Hat with a bright pink rose

c.  Green Granny Hat with cream rose
Gorra Granny verde, con una rosa crema

FIRST BABY SHOES

PRIMEROS ZAPATITOS DE BEBÉ

A while ago I had a failed attempt to make a pair of baby shoes.  I simply did not like the outcome, so I let that idea to rest, and did not try it again…until now.  A cousin asked me to make a pair for her baby, and I told her I would give it a try.  Here is the result:

So these are officially “my first” baby shoes.  I used a baby yarn in color light blue, and hook 3mm.  Personally, I don’t think this is the best yarn for baby shoes, because it is rather “light”, and I think shoes need a little more structure.  Now I am working on other samples with worsted yarn (medium), and I am liking the outcome much better.  I will show them to you in due time…

But I have to say, the shoes did fit the baby’s feet perfectly.  I will be making more of these, and I will try other styles as well.

I did not follow a pattern, but basically improvised, following the structure of some slippers I made a while ago (pattern: Mary Jane Slippers , from Good Knits).  Here is a picture of those:

PINK HEAD BAND

CINTA ROSADA

You have already seen the BABY HEAD BANDS , set over a flat surface…but now I have a “baby model”...

This is Inés, the sweet daughter of my cousin G.

Doesn´t she look adorable?

¿Acaso no luce divina?

Don´t think I have forgotten about the pattern for the head bands.  I am working on the photo tutorial, and I will soon share it with you…

GRANNY TILES in Neutrals

CUADROS GRANNY NEUTRALES

This is a cushion made with granny squares in different tones of beige.  The last row in all squares is made in off-white.

Then, the squares are joined with sc´s (simple crochet stitches), using the border color (off-white, in this case). After I joined the 9 squares in each side (which are identical), I made an extra row of off-white to reach the size of the cushion.

I call this style: “Granny Tiles”, because it reminds me of ceramic tiles on the floor, with a neutral color separating each square.  For this project, I used my left-over stash in neutral beige colors, all medium yarn.

Originally, I was going to make a baby blanket with these mixed bag of beige…but then someone told me it looked a little sad and serious for a baby.  I guess they were right, but I loved them.  Then I noticed how good it looked on my sofa, where I usually knit…so I changed plans: it was going to become a “Granny Tiles Cushion”.

I love how it looks over my brown sofa, and under the square paintings.
