Crochet

This “All-Shawl collection” was born of my mom´s desire to give a prayer shawl to  each one of the ladies in our prayer group. 

La colección de chales “All-Shawl” nació del deseo de mi linda madre de darle un chal a cada una de las damas en nuestro grupo de oración. 

Each one was made in a different color.  There are some made with baby yarn, and some with medium yarn.  I think they all look so beautiful. 

Cada uno está hecho en un color diferente.  Algunos están hechos con lana de bebé, y otras con lana mediana.  Cada uno es precioso.

But I have to warn you: This pattern is highly addictive.  In our knitting club we have made more than 30 in total (we have literally lost count).  These are some of the one I have shown in Lanas & Hilos: in Bluish tones (Royal Blue and Mauve); in Summer Colors  (Coral and Ocean Blue).

Pero les advierto que este patrón es altamente adictivo.  En nuestro grupo tejijuntas hemos hecho más de 30 en conjunto (literalmente perdimos la cuenta).  Estos son algunos de los que les he presentado en Lanas & Hilos:   En tonos azulados (azul pavo y lila), y en colores veraniegos (aqua y coral).

Black Merino

My mom made this one for herself.  A serious color, maybe, but classic and goes with everything.  In black merino wool. 

Mi mamá hizo ésta para sí misma.  Tal vez es un color serio, pero es un clásico y elegante, que va con todo.  En lana merino de color negro. 

Satin pink

I made this in a medium combed cotton, and it has a satin look.  Lovely yarn!

Este lo hice con un algodón grueso, pero parece satín.  ¡Un deleite de lana!

Long Grey

My aunt made this one in grey (DK yarn), which is longer than the rest.  With this pattern, you can go as short or as long as you want.   

Mi tía hizo éste en gris (con lana delgada), el cual es más largo que los demás.  Con este patrón, se puede ir tan corto o tan largo como un quiera.

This is a pattern we will come back too, for sure…

AUTUM ELISE SHAWL

This shawl is known as “Elise”.  This version is made with a fine cotton thread (Clea 2000), in autum tones: burnt orange, mustard, olive green and deep red. 

Este es el chal conocido como “Elise”.  Esta versión está elaborada con un hilo fino de algodón (Clea 2000), en colores otoño: naranja, mostaza, verde olivo y rojo vino.

This is one of my favorite crochet shawls.  It is called “Small Talk”, and the pattern can be found in Ravelry.  

Este es uno de mis chales favoritos en ganchillo (crochet).  El patrón se llama “Small Talk”, y lo pueden encontrar en Ravelry (en ingles). 

I just love the design with leaves (or feathers).  We have made three so far: in cream , in limegreen , and now in royal blue.  All of them were made with baby yarn, which makes it super light and soft. 

Me encanta el diseño de hojas (o plumas).  Hasta ahora hemos hecho tres: en crema, en verde limón y ahora en azul royal.  Todos están hechos con lana fina de bebé, lo cual los hace ligeros y suaves. 

I am considering making one in cotton…but it will have to wait.  The cooler weather is coming, and I am getting excited about other projects with warmer yarns.  Are you working on something for fall/winter?

Estoy considerando hacer uno en algodón fino…pero tendrá que esperar, ya que el clima se pondrá más frío, y estoy entusiasmada con algunos proyectos con lanas más cálidas.  ¿Están ustedes ya trabajando en algo para el otoño/invierno?

The body of the shawl was made with a green matte cotton, and the lacy border with a shiny mercerized cotton (Sinfonía, Omega).

El cuerpo del chal está hecho con un algodón verde mate, y el borde calado con un algodón satinado mercerizado del mismo tono (Sinfonía, Omega).

As an accessory, my mom made a crocheted rose, and turned it into a brooch.

Como un accesorio especial, mi mama hizo una rosa en ganchillo, y le puso un broche atrás.

b.  All Shawl in Coral

Chal Veloz en Coral

This shawl was made with a delightful satiny cotton (brandless, from Agrentina).  The drape is amazing because the yarn is a little weighty.

Este chal está hecho con un delicioso algodón satinado proveniente de Argentina.  Tiene una caída preciosa ya que el hilo tiene cierto peso.

For those of us who love to crochet and knit, a SHAWL could be a perfect gift for a friend.  My mom made this for a special lady... 

Para quienes nos gusta tejer, un CHAL constituye un perfecto regalo para una amiga.  Mi mama hizo éste para una dama muy especial…

This shawl is similar than the HALF-GRANNY SHAWL she made before (in Turqoise), but this time she used another border, with another kind of flower border, inspired by a pattern found in the Interweave Crochet magazine (Fall 2008). 

Este chal es similar al CHAL GRANNY que hizo hace un tiempo, también con hilo de algodón pero en Turquesa.  En esta occasion utilizó otro borde, inspirado en uno que salió en la revista Interweave Crochet (otoño 2008).

A crochet rose was added as a brooch.

También le hizo una rosa para usarla como broche.

I am not a rebel at heart, but I confess I have a tendency of changing the rules a bit when it comes to patterns.  For me, patterns are ideas or suggestions, not rules set on stone.  Therefore, I tend to change patterns and adapt them to my own personal style.  Sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not...  But here is one time when it did work, and I was very happy with the result:

No tengo un alma rebelde, pero debo confesar que tengo la tendencia de cambiar las reglas un poco en lo que referente a los patrones.   En lo personal, yo tomo los patrones como ideas y sugerencias, y no tanto como reglas escritas sobre piedra.  Por lo tanto, me gusta cambiar los patrones y adaptarlos a mi propio estilo personal.  A veces me funciona, y en otras ocasiones no...Pero esta es una instancia en que se me funcionó, y estoy contenta con el resultado:

Recuerdan el Chal Curacao en Gris? y en Beige?  

Well, I transformed it into a lacy top...

Bueno, lo transformé en un blusón calado...

Instead of the last rows of the shawl, I closed it with a ribbed border.

En lugar de las últimas filas del chal, lo cerré con un borde de resorte. 

This lacy shawl/top was made with acrylic yarn (Cisne Rendidora, in grey).  But now, with the warmer weather, I am wishing to make one in cotton.  And I say “wishing” on purpose, because I do not know if I will be able to duplicate, because it was totally improvised...

Este Chal/blusa calado está hecho con una lana acrílica (Cisne Rendidora, en gris).  Pero ahora que ha llegado un clima más cálido, se desearía hacer uno en algodón.  Y digo “desearía” a propósito, porque no sé si pueda replicarlo, ya que lo hice completamente improvisado. 

I am thinking...I have to try this again!

Have you heard of the "ALL SHAWL", designed by Doris Chan? 

It is a simple, but memorable shawl.  It is fast and easy to make, and can be easily adapted to different sizes and types of yarn.  It is made with a hook larger than the yarn calls for, so it is a little loose.  But the shape falls perfectly around the shoulders and adjusts to the body.  And if that was not good enough, the pattern is free: “All Shawl”, in Ravelry. 

¿Conocen el chal “All-Shawl” (lit. “Todo chal”), diseñado por Doris Chan? 
Es un chal simple, pero memorable.  Es fácil y rápido de hacer, y puede ajustarse fácilmente a diversas tallas y tipos de lana.  Se hace con una aguja más grande que lo normal, por lo que el tejido queda suelto.  Pero la forma cae perfectamente alrededor de los hombres y se ajusta al cuerpo.  Y por si esto no fuera suficiente, el patrón es gratis: “All Shawl”, en Ravelry.  En nuestro club de tejido lo bautizamos (en español) como “el Chal Veloz”.

I highly recommend this shawl…but be warned!: it can can be addictive.  In our knitting Club alone, we have made more than 20 all together…and counting.  I am in the process of making two (in fuchsia and aqua), which I will show you when I finish them…

Les recomiendo este chal, pero con una advertencia: puede volverse adictivo.  En nuestro club de tejido ya hemos hecho más de 20 entre todas…y seguimos contando.  Yo estoy haciendo dos (en fucsia y aqua), que les mostraré cuando los termine…

Some people ask:  What can you use motifs for?  Actually, they can be used to make many things, such as coasters, blankets, table runners, tops, and shawls…
Here is a shawl my mom made from motifs:

Algunas personas preguntan: ¿Para qué sirven los motifs?  En realidad hay múltiples usos, tales como portavasos, frazadas, manteles, blusas y chales…
Éste es un chal que mi mamá hizo de motifs:

The motif used for this shawl comes from the book: Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs, by Edie Eckman.  It is Motif # 118.  This is one of my favorite motifs, and the one I have on my blog´s header.  [Note: I am currently making random motifs from that book, and you can follow my progress in my gallery: Motif Challenge 2012.]

El motif que se usó para este chal viene del libro “Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs”, de Edie Eckman.  Éste es el Motif # 118.  Es uno de mis favoritos, y es el que aparece en el titular de mi blog.  Actualmente estoy haciendo los motifs de ese libro, y pueden ver mi progreso visitando esta página:  Motif Challenge 2012.

This shawl can be tied in a knot of front, or can be worn loose…even with a belt.

Everybody in my Knitting Club has made the Half-granny Shawl, except me.  So I decided it was my turn… My mom had made it with a turquoise cotton.  But I decided to go in another direction… This is my version of the Half-Granny Shawl:

Todas en mi grupo de “Tejijuntas” han hecho un chal granny, excepto yo. Así que decidí que era mi turno…  Mi mamá lo hizo con un algodón turquesa, pero yo decidí ir en otra dirección… Ésta es mi version del chal “Half-Granny”:

I am the photographer (usually behind the lense), and my mom is the model. 

Yo soy la fotógrafa (por lo general, detrás del lente), y mi mamá es la linda modelo. 

I made it with worsted acryclic yarn in 4 different shades of grey.
Está hecha con lana mediana acrílica en 4 diferentes tonos de gris.
