My mom had a special surprise for our little knitting group:  two crochet cases for each one of us, for our hooks, scissors, and other tools. 

Mi mamá tenía una sorpresa especial para las chicas de nuestro grupo de tejido: dos bolsitas en ganchillo para nuestras agujas, tijeras y otros utensilios. 

1.  Mini-Granny Bag (Bolsa con mini-grannys)

The first one is a little rectangle bag made with mini-grannys, which was later lined with a colorful fabric, and closed with a zipper.  They all have the same yarn colors, but each has a distinctive background color.

La primera es una bolsita rectangular formada con mini cuadros de la abuelita, la cual está forrada con una tela colorida, y tiene un cierre.  Todas tienen los mismos colores de lanas, pero cada uno tiene un color de fondo distintivo.

2.  Folding Case for crochet hooks.  (Funda plegable para ganchos)

This case is made, on one side, with the same fabric, and the other with a crochet lining made with fine cotton (thread), in each of the four basic colors.  The crochet lining was made with a mosaic stitch, which is perfect to insert the crochet hooks.  The case can be rolled up, and tied. 

Esta funda está hecha, por un lado, con la misma tela colorida; y por el otro lado, con un forro de crochet hecho con hilo fino de algodón fino, en el mismo color base de la otra bolsita.  El forro está hecho con una puntada mosaico, la cual es perfecta para insertar los ganchos de crochet.  Luego se enrolla para guardarlos.

*  And mine is BROWN.

Bolsitas de Regalo

These are some special GRANNY GIFT BAGS my mom made for a surprise gift. 

Estas son unas bolsitas de regalo hechas a crochet.  Las hizo mi mamá como sorpresa para unos regalos especiales. 

The gift bags are made with mini-grannys, using  4 or 5 different colors for each bag, in a fine alpaca yarn (Alpandina).  Then joined with the simple crochet method, on the round, to form a cilinder. 

Estas bolsitas está hechas de mini-grannys, usando 4 ó 5 colores por cada bolsa, en lana fina de alpaca (Alpandina).  Luego se unen con el método de medio punto (sencillo), formando un cilindro.

The base is in the form of a circle, using the main color.  Then came the lining in simple dc´s in the same color, and a shell border.

La base tiene forma circular, usando el color principal.  Luego hizo el forro con simples varetas, usando el mismo color, y el borde en conchas.

Por dentro y por fuera

 With a contrasting color, she made a cord with crochet hearts in both ends, which ties the bag to keep the gift inside.

Con un color contrastante, ella hizo un listón de cadenas en cuyas puntas hizo unos corazones a ganchillo.  Este listón amarra la bolsita para guardar bien el regalito. 

I love grannys because they are so versatile.  You can make so many things, not just blankets (such as an I-Pad cover that I made a while ago).

Me encantan los grannys porque son tan versátiles.  Se pueden hacer tantas cosas, no sólo mantas (tal como la cubierta granny para el i-Pad, que hice hace poco). 

I think these gift bags are adorable.  I am using mine as a cover for my pencil holder. 

Estas bolsitas me parecen adorable. La mía la estoy usando como cubierta para mi bote de lápices.

No pattern… It was completely improvised.

No hay patrón…fue completamente improvisado.

BABY HEAD BANDS

CINTAS PARA BEBE

A while ago I made a collection of crochet head bands for babies.  They were in great demand, so I needed to make some more… I changed the band a little bit, and I am happy with the result, because it is a little stretchier than the others. 

Hace poco hice una colección de Cintas para bebé en crochet.  Hubo mucha demanda, así que necesitaba hacer más…  Cambié un poco la banda, y estoy contenta con el resultado porque es una puntada más elástica que las otras. 

They are made with cotton.  I used DMC Senso for the colors, and double thread for the white, with a 3 mm hook. 

Están hechas de algodón (DMC, Senso, en colores, y doble hilo en blanco), con un gancho de 3 mm.

I-PAD COVER in stripes

CUBIERTA PARA I-PAD con Líneas

Remember my Granny I-Pad Cover ?  Someone saw it, and ask me if I could make another one.  There was no preference of color or shape, so it was left to my imagination and creativity.  I thought vertical lines would look great.  And I wanted it to be colorful, but sober at the same time.  Here is the result:

¿Recuerdan mi Cubierta para I-Pad?  Pues alguien la vio, y me encargó hacerle una.  No tenía preferencia de color ni forma, así que lo dejó a mi imaginación y creatividad.  Yo pensé que líneas verticales se mirarían geniales.  También consideré que fuera colorido, pero sobrio a la misma vez.  Éste es el resultado:

For extra protection, I padded it with grey felt. 

Para protección adicional, lo forré con fieltro gris.

It is open on the top, for easy access, but with a small tab and button to hold it in place. 

Está abierto por arriba, para acceso fácil, pero con una pequeña tira y un botón para mantenerlo en su lugar.

…and I am glad to say that I had a satisfied customer!

…y tengo el gusto de decir que tuve un cliente satisfecho.

BALOON BALL

All my nephews play football (soccer in U.S.).  So I thought of making them these crocheted balls, inspired by some I have seen in the internet.  They can play with them inside the house, because they are very light, filled with a balloon with air. 

Todos mis sobrinos juegan fútbol.  Así que pensé en tejerles unos balones de ganchillo, inspirada en unos que vi en internet.  Así pueden jugar dentro de la casa, ya que son muy livianos, rellenos de un globo con aire.

This one is made with a variety of worsted yarns (medium) from my stash, with neutral colors.

Este balón lo hice de colores neutros, usando lana variada (mediana).

The other version has a grey background and pentagons with bright colors. 

La otra versión tiene un fondo gris con pentagonos de colores brillantes.

I used a combination of hexagon and pentagon motifs to emulate a soccer ball.  I joined the motifs on the last row, using the “join-as-you-go” method.   [TIP: start with a pentagon, and make hexagons around it.  It will naturally take the shape of a ball]

Lo hice usando una combinación de motifs con la forma de hexágonos y pentágonos, imitando un balón de futbol.  Fui uniendo los motifs en el camino (en la última hilera). 
[NOTA: se inicia con un pentágono, y luego se rodea con hexágonos.  Toma la forma redonda naturalmente]

When joining the very last motif, I left a little open part, to insert and extract the balloon.
Al unir el último motif, le dejé una apertura para poder insertar y extraer el globo.

I got the idea of filling the crochet ball with a baloon from Creadientje´s Blog.  There is a free pattern, but it is in Dutch. 

La idea de llenar el balón de crochet con un globo la obtuve del blog Creadientje.   Tiene el patrón gratis, pero está en holandés. 

Spring Hexagon Blanket

This baby blanket reminds me of spring!!!
I love the colors:  Lavender, Melon Green and very Pale Blue.

Esta frazada de bebé me recuerda a la primavera.

Me gustan tanto los colores:  Lavanda, Verde tierno y Celeste pálido.

 

I made this blanket using a pattern I found in Attic 24: Hexagon Blanket.
The border is very simple:  A few rows of dc’s, alternating the colors.  But before that, I used my pattern: “Fill the Gap in the Hex”, to fill those awkward spaces in hexagon blankets.

Usé el patrón de Attic 24 para Hexágonos.  El borde es muy sencillos: varetas siguiendo el borde, alternando los colores.  Pero antes de ello, usé mi patrón para “Rellenar Hexágonos". 

 

Together with a matching baby cardigan, it makes a perfect gift for a baby shower.

La frazada, junto con un pequeño suetercito que combine, hacen un perfecto regalo para un bebé especial.

I-PAD COVER

Last year, I received an iPad as a gift.  I got a magnetic cover, which protects the screen.  But then I discovered that not only the screen needs protection, but the metallic back as well, which can be scratched if one carries it inside a bag with other things. So I decided to make a crochet cover, inspired by some I have seen in the www, such as Barbara’s Kindle Covers or for Manja’s e-bookreader.  

El año pasado recibí un iPad como regalo.  Le conseguí una cubierta magnetic que protege la pantalla.  Pero luego descubrí que no solo la pantalla necesitaba protección, sino también la parte trasera, pues el metal se puede lastimar si uno la lleva en la bolsa.  Por lo tanto, decidí hacer una cubierta de crochet (ganchillo), inspirada por algunas que he visto en internet, tales como:  las cubiertas de Barbara para su Kindle,  o para el lector electrónico de Manja.

 

I finally decided to use mini-grannies, inspired by one I saw in Ravelry: “Granny Square iPadCase” by Lindsay Edwards. You can also find it I her blog Tails to Tell.

Finalmente me decidí hacerla con cuadros granny, tal como la que vi en el blog de Lindsay Edwards: Tails to Tell.

Here is my version…with a different design on each side:

It is made of mini-grannies, joined with sc.  The stripes of different grey tones are also mini-grannies, “joined as you go”, then joined with the next row with sc in green. 

Está hecha de mini grannies, unidos con punto sencillo.  Las franjas de diferentes tonos de gris están también hechos con mini grannies, unidos en el camino, y luego pegadas las franjas con verde. 

Then I lined the interior with grey felt.  And finally I joined both sides with the bright green yarn.
Luego forré el interior con fieltro gris, cosido a mano. Y finalmente uní las dos caras con lana verde limón.

This is a bookmark I made a while ago with grey thread (Clea 2000) and two magenta beads.

Este es un marca páginas (separador de libros) que hice hace algún tiempo, con hilo gris (Clea 2000) y dos cuentas de color magenta.

It is so simple...but I simply LOVE it!
Es tan sencillo...pero simplemente lo AMO.

STAR HEXAGON DOILY

TAPETE DE ESTRELLAS HEXAGONAL

This is a lacy and starry doily in the shape of a hexagon.I made it with white cotton thread, using a 2.5 mm crochet needle.
Este es un tapete calado en forma hexagonal con el fondo de estrellas. Está hecho con hilo fino de algodón, color blanco, usando una aguja 2.5 mm.

The original pattern was designed for a lacy shawl. I loved the starry design, so I decided to turn it into a doily. It is made with 19 stars (using the 6 point-star motif), and joined them as I went along.

El patrón original estaba diseñado para un chal calado. Me gustó mucho la forma de la estrella, y decidí usarla para hacer un tapete. Está hecho de 19 estrellas (usando la aplicación de estrella con 6 picos), las cuales fui uniendo en el camino.

Finally, I added a wide border all around of 3 rows of double crochet and a final 2 rows of simple crochet (sc), because I felt it needed a little structure.

Luego le añadí un borde ancho alrededor con medios puntos, porque sentí que necesitaba un poco de estructura.

Note: If you notice, I changed a bit the center of the star. Instead of just 1 treble, I did 2 tr together, to make it look like a little flower in the center.
Nota: Si se dan cuenta, cambié un poco el centro de la estrella. En lugar de hacer una vareta doble, hice dos juntas, para que diera la apariencia de tener una pequeña flor en el centro.
